All entries must be received by TopShelf no later than 1:00pm (Eastern) on January 11, 2017.

Terms & Legal:

  • All entries must be received no later than 1:00pm eastern on January 11, 2017.
  • All Entrants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of submission cutoff (January 11, 2017).
  • All entries must be completed on our official entry form at: TopShelfPub.com/index/php/nbt-form
  • Entry form submissions will officially open on May 2, 2016.
  • There is no fee for entering this contest and there is no purchase necessary to win.
  • On February 22, 2017, ten semi-finalists will be selected from all entrants, to submit a full manuscript.
  • On June 14, 2017, three finalists will be selected: 1 First Place and 2 Runners-up.
  • All three finalists will receive a traditional publishing deal from TopShelf Publishing.
  • The first place winner will also receive a $1,000 (USD) Cash Advance! (See details below)
  • All manuscripts must be between 40,000 and 80,000 words in order to qualify.
  • TopShelf Publishing does not publish materials that are overly vulgar or pornographic (no erotica).
  • Entries must not have an ISBN associated with them and cannot have been published before.
  • All manuscripts must fall within the Thriller genre as superbly defined by Writer's Digest University (not affiliated with TopShelf Publishing or this competition): THRILLER - A novel intended to arouse feelings of excitement or suspense. Works in this genre are highly sensational, usually focusing on illegal activities, international espionage, sex and violence. A thriller is often a detective story in which the forces of good are pitted against the forces of evil in a kill-or-be-killed situation. A novel intended to arouse feelings of excitement or suspense. This competition is being sponsored and sanctioned by TopShelf Publishing, an imprint of TopShelf Indie Authors & Books, LLC, as a way to discover new talent and reward one fantastic new author with a publishing contract with a cash advance. The cash advance is paid out in accordance with the standard TopShelf Publishing agreement. The $1,000.00 is in United States funds and is an advance on future royalties. It is NOT a cash prize. This competition is in no way a sweepstakes or lottery and is therefore not governed by any rules or regulations that control any such events. If the winner decides to NOT have their book published by TopShelf Publishing, then no advance will be paid. Any conflicts or legal disputes resulting in this competition shall be handled in the New Hampshire State Court System. No one under the age of 18 years old, at the time of the official submission cutoff (January 11, 2017) shall be allowed to participate in this competition.

Any manuscript containing offensive materials or a word count that is too low or too high, shall not be considered as a valid entry. Any manuscript that has been previously published in any form and in any medium shall not be considered as a valid entry. Any entry form or manuscript that is submitted after the latest noted submission time and date, shall not be considered as a valid entry. There must be a minimum of one-hundred valid entrants by the official cutoff date of January 11, 2017, in order for the advance to be offered to the top winner. In the event that there are not enough valid entrants, the competition will continue without the advance or with a modified advance at the publishers sole discretion.

All winners will be required to enter into the standard TopShelf Publishing Agreement and if the winner chooses not to enter into this agreement, the winner's manuscript shall not be published and any promised advance shall NOT be paid. TopShelf Publishing, its parent company, all affiliates, sponsors, retail partners, and anyone else doing business with TopShelf Publishing, shall be held harmless of any damage or legal ramifications resulting from anything that an author does or has done that is proven to be illegal, such as (but not limited to): plagiarism, copyright infringement, misquoting, bad researching, etc... TopShelf Publishing and its parent company reserve the right to publicize and use the likeness of any entrant, entry, and bookseller participating in this competition as a means to generate exposure and encourage additional participation.
